The Ballad for Anyone Who Wishes to Make a Comeback

Mothers cried for their lost sons
That were stolen by their fathers guns

He pushed guns into temples
And forced bullets into brains

He beat his women
And shed no tears

You know you can return
For you are the prodigal son.

He was caught in Tuskegee
With his hands holding the smoking barrel

Now he counts the days
Behind steel prison bars

He used to sleep soundly
But not anymore

The dreams he dreams of
Keep him up in his cell.

The faces of the victims
As he ended their screams

You know you can return
For you are the prodigal son

Ending lives for the fun of it
What a monster he had become

He screamed at God and cursed him
Blaming Him for where he stood

Then he broke down in tears
Begging God to forgive him.

The cell was dark and damp
And out of the stillness he could hear

You know you can return
For you are the prodigal son.
